BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Camp Sunshine, dba Reed Academy, is a day camp located in a lovely residential neighborhood in North Framingham, Massachusetts. We are adjacent to Callahan State Park, and easily accessible to a wide variety of local activities and points of interest in MetroWest.
We focus on outdoor activities that include swimming, basketball, gardening, as well as meeting the academic challenges of our campers to prevent substantial regression according to their DESE IEP.
SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: The successes of Camp Sunshine, dba Reed Academy are due to the integration of a fun, outdoors activity based program and academic review of skills learned during the past school year. All of the camp programming has been designed to provide the whole child with a fun summer program.
Reed Academy students present with a variety of educational levels and social/ emotional needs, (i.e., high functioning A.S.D., depression, anxiety, school phobia, neurologically based learning challenges, bi-polar/mood disorder, trauma, reactive attachment disorder. We specialize in work with complicated children, providing educational, social skills, and therapeutic services (individual and group).
Student success at Reed Academy is attributed to the integration within our therapeutic milieu of educational programming, clinical and family support services, and a staff who believe in each student who crosses Reed Academy's threshold.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Weightloss, Swimming, Tennis, Baseball, Basketball, Volleyball, Team Sports, Computers, Math, Science, Technology, Academics, Theater, Music/Band, Fine Arts/Crafts, Video/Filmmaking/Photography, and more. Reading, Language Arts, Science
Yoga, Mindfulness. Day Trips & Excursions, Fishing, Bike Riding, Theater Arts.
CAMP LOCATION: Located in a quiet, beautiful, residential area of Framingham, Massachusetts, Camp Sunshine, dba Reed Academy is a therapeutic day program servicing boys (6-18 years) from multiple Massachusetts communities. We are adjacent to Callahan State Park.
CAMP FACILITIES: We are a 32 room facility with classrooms, comfortable individual and group therapy spaces, a breakfast room, a living room for morning meeting, as well as a Nurse's office.
There is also an outdoor play space, garden, and an outdoor pool, basketball court, and a gym/fitness center. We also have use of 500 acres of conservation land for learning and fitness.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Sunshine, dba Reed Academy was established in 1975, to provide a camp-like atmosphere where boys, ages 6-18 have a program where they can flourish with summer activities, and still maintain the skills that they have been learning throughout the school year.
Camp Sunshine, dba Reed Academy has grown to be a full year program. Reed Academy, the 12 month program is dedicated to helping boys with social and emotional needs. The highly structured program is to promote academic growth as well as providing an extended day for students to engage in fun and supervised activities.
Our camp programming works with each child's IEP, and provides additional focus on strengthening of adaptive daily living skills, social skills, and self-esteem building. Our classrooms are small, with ratios 4/5 students to each certified special education teacher, allowing the behavioral and educational needs of each student to be met with care and compassion.
Camp Sunshine, dba Reed Academy also has a full time LICSW and clinical staff on board to assist in providing support within the therapeutic milieu. In addition, the Executive Director, Academic Director, and Program Coordinator work closely with the students and staff members.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Camp Sunshine, dba Reed Academy, will review each case separately, based on student need.
FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): We strive to include family members in activities and clinical sessions as they are able.

CAMP SESSION DATES & FEES:
The 2019 Summer Program will begin on July 8, and end on August 16th. Fees are based on the daily school rate set by the Executive Office for Administration and Finance, operational services division.
